Biographie
Michel Gondry wurde am 8. Mai 1963 in Versailles, Frankreich geboren und ist der bekannteste französische Musikvideo-Regisseur sowie ein erfolgreicher Film- und Werbespotregisseur und Drehbuchautor.
Seine Videos zeichnen sich durch experimentelle, verspielte und fantastische Ideen aus. Zum Beispiel drehte er für die White Stripes ein Video mit Lego-Steinen, und die Aufnahmetechnik von "Like a Rolling Stone" der Rolling Stones gilt als Vorlage für die berühmte "bullet time"-Montage im Film Matrix.
Gondry gestaltet seine Bildersprache teilweise in der Tradition des Regisseurs Busby Berkeley [1], indem Gondry Personen oder andere Elemente visuell vervielfacht und so kaleidoskopartige Choreographien erzeugt. In anderen Videoclips werden musikalischen Einheiten bestimmten visuellen Elementen zugeordnet, was an die „visuelle Musik“ des frühen 20. Jahrhunderts erinnert.
Michel Gondry bekam einen Oscar für den Film "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" (Best Original Screenplay).
Er war selber Schlagzeuger in der Band Oui Oui.
