Fierce Panda entsteht 1993 als Idee dreier Musikjournalisten in einem Londoner Pub, am 24. Februar 1994 erscheint das erste Release. Seitdem wächst das Label zu einer festen Größe im Indiebereich an und verhalf in den 90ern Bands wie Supergrass, Ash oder The Bluetones zum Erfolg. Dazu gibt es vereinzelte Single-Releases von Bands wie Coldplay oder Placebo. Von 1999 bis 2001 arbeitet das Label für einige internationale Releases mit Mushroom Records zusammen. Außerdem entstehen die dazugehörigen, kleineren Labels Rabid Badger (1997) und Livid Meerkat (1998). Das Label ist auch für seine vielzähligen, mit Wortspielen betitelten Label-Sampler bekannt.
Labelchef ist Simon Williams. Fierce Panda wird in Österreich über Trost vertrieben.
