In der Jubiläumsausgabe des Musikexpress zu dessen 40-jährigem Bestehen wurde eine Liste der 100 besten Alben aus dem Zeitraum 1969-2009 (eben die Erscheinungsjahre des Magazins) veröffentlicht. Ausgewählt wurden die Alben von einer 100-köpfigen Jury bestehend aus Redakteuren, Musikjournalisten, Musikern und "Popkulturschaffenden", von denen jeder 20 Alben auswählte, die dann zu folgender Liste ausgewertet wurden.
